Heated towel rail installation height

A bathroom without a heated towel rail looks inferior. The presence of a household appliance allows not only to dry a towel or linen, but also to maintain the required microclimate. The function of heating the room in the winter and eliminating excess moisture in the summer is assigned to this object that is familiar to the eye.

General rules for installing a heated towel rail

Rarely do you have to deal with the question of the required installation height of household heating appliances. But, when replacing household appliances or carrying out repair work and installing new plumbing, one involuntarily thinks about installation standards and norms.

First, we will figure out what types and types of household equipment for towels are. According to the method of work, they distinguish:

  • water;
  • electric;
  • combined.

By external signs:

  • M-shaped (ordinary coils);
  • in the form of the letter S;
  • similar to ladders;
  • U-shaped.

The specifics of the location of the connected networks, wall mounts and the connection methodology make us individually approach the issue of installing heated towel rails of various designs. In this case, the installation of the plumbing fixture must comply with generally accepted rules.

It is important that the equipment is connected to hot water supply or heating exactly as provided by the developer. If the plumbing fixture is located parallel to the DHW riser, then this method must be installed.

IMPORTANT! In no case do not redo the connection system for direct connection, especially with the installation of valves. This method grossly violates the rules of operation of home networks and can lead to unforeseen circumstances!

When connecting to the heating system of apartment buildings, it is impossible to change the design features of the network to which the plumbing fixture is connected.

A common factor when connecting is to maintain the installation method. It is performed in the following ways:

  • lower (horizontal);
  • vertical (direct);
  • diagonal.

Only carrying out repairs with the replacement of internal wiring networks and the lack of finishing coat on the walls will allow you to change the connection method. Maintaining the center distance between the connection pipes is of great importance.

ATTENTION! A small size adjustment between the axles is possible if there is sufficient distance for mounting several turning angles, from the utility network to the plumbing fixture.

The desire to replace the usual M-shaped coil with a modern ladder will require serious alterations with the replacement of pipes and exterior decoration. Many consumers do not reach global reconstructions and leave the alteration of the vertical eyeliner to the bottom, accessible for visual perception. This adversely affects the interior of the room, but makes available the desired plumbing model.

When connecting, the dimensions of the connecting threads are generally accepted. Manufacturers usually equip plumbing fixtures with 1/2 ”inch female thread, although there are exceptions.

The size of the heated towel rail is chosen, depending on the area of the bathroom. The larger the room, the larger the towel dryer. Fixing on the wall is done thanks to several support brackets, which are fastened using quick installation or similar dowels with self-tapping screws.

IMPORTANT! Before carrying out the installation of the device for drying towels in an apartment building, it is necessary to coordinate the time of work with the service housing department. If necessary, write a written application to temporarily disable the required utility network! An exception is the presence of supply and return shutoff valves, shut-off valves without creating obstacles to the operation of the main line.

When replacing the old device with a new one, dismantling is carried out very carefully so as not to damage the threads of the connected pipes.

How high is the heated towel rail in the bathroom

One of the generally accepted installation rules is the installation of the appliance above the washing machine. And if it has a vertical load, then the towel dryer should not prevent the opening of the upper doors for loading and unloading linen. Such requirements are difficult to attribute to the rules - these are rather recommendations for preserving the space in familiar small-sized bathrooms.

In accordance with the Building Norms and Rules (SNiPs), the installation of internal sanitary equipment is carried out at a height of at least 120 cm, if they are U-shaped (U-shaped). For the equipment of the M-shaped configuration, this minimum admissible indicator makes 90 cm.

The rules provide for a desirable deviation from door frames and hinged furniture of at least 60 cm, but, in fact, this provision is often neglected. This is due to the small size of the premises. The height of the upper part of the heated towel rail, in accordance with the standards, should not exceed 170 cm. This indicator also cannot always be maintained, especially when using staircase devices.

After reading the standard requirements, each user will ask about the possibility of violating these standards for subjective reasons. The answer is very simple: the installation height of the plumbing fixture should correspond to the utility network connections equipped with the bathroom, should not impede the use of other equipment, and be convenient when using towels and linen for drying.

Another factor that affects the height is the fit to the bathroom interior. It is especially important, when carrying out repairs with the replacement of interior decoration, to combine the height of the heated towel rail with pronounced decor lines, as well as with other plumbing fixtures.

Having familiarized with the above material, everyone can safely determine the place and the required height of the sanitary equipment.
