DIY wine rack

To store good wine, especially collection wine, special conditions are required. In the cellars it is stored on special racks or shelves with individual cells for each unit. In an ordinary apartment, you will need a wine cabinet for this. It can be purchased ready-made, but for a small collection, significant material costs for the purchase of such equipment are inappropriate.

Reference! The ready-made refrigerator cabinet is designed as a refrigerator with a compressor, so its cost is quite high.

How to make a wine cabinet yourself

To store ordinary wines at home, you can make a cabinet yourself in several simple ways. Before you begin, you need to decide on the place of future storage of wines. This requires compliance with simple rules:

  1. Determine the location of the fixed cabinet installation.
  2. The ideal wine storage temperature is 10-15 degrees. In a city apartment, it is impossible to provide this condition without special refrigeration equipment, so the storage location should be located as far as possible from the radiators. Installation in rooms with a "warm floor" system is also excluded, so there will be an effect of cooling the wine.
  3. Humidity in the room should be maintained at 60-70%.
  4. The storage location must be provided with a constant flow of fresh air.
  5. The cabinet must not be in direct sunlight.

For the device of the wine cabinet, you can use several options:

  1. Use the existing one by dividing it with diagonal X-shaped partitions of different sizes for each bottle separately or at the rate of storage of 2-3 bottles per cell, stacking them one on top of the other or dividing square cells of the same size for individual storage of each bottle.
  2. To adapt the niches available in the apartment.
  3. To make a stand in the form of an arc with perforation for standard wine bottles with a capacity of 0.7 l, which will be stored with the neck down. Such a perforated arc can be a decoration of the kitchen or living room.
  4. For rooms of a small area, when each square is valued m, make a narrow vertical shelf from floor to ceiling with separate shelves for each bottle and with perforation of one of the sides with round holes along the diameter of the bottle. Such a design can serve as a partition of the space of a small room.
  5. Arrange a shelf for storing wine from cylindrical clay blocks (ideal for storing wine in the cellar) or from PVC pipes of different diameters (the design turns out to be unusual and effective).

The best places to store wines are:

  • cellar;
  • kitchen;
  • canteen;
  • attic;
  • the under-stairwell;
  • freestanding countertop.

DIY wooden wine cabinet

Despite a wide variety of design findings for arranging wine storage places, a wooden wine cabinet remains a classic option.

Important! Wooden structures allow the wine to breathe.

Its great advantage in contrast to shelves and racks, which are made for a certain space, is:

  • mobility (the possibility of transportation to another place);
  • Beautiful design.

The advantage of a wooden wine cabinet is the possibility of self-repair.

There are many different models of wood. Starting to make a cabinet with your own hands, you need to determine its size and shape.

Attention! It is imperative to provide an additional number of cells in case of an increase in the collection of wines.

The design may have one or two doors or not at all. Making a wine cabinet differs from making shelves and shelving only in the presence of a cabinet. Internal shelves are made out as described above: X-shaped, square or round holes for each bottle. These can be individual modules, then assembled together. Effectively fit into the interior of the model with combined internal shelves for storage.

Reference! The best option for storing the bottle is an individual cell that prevents the bottles from touching when they are removed from the cabinet.

For the manufacture of wine cabinets, which will be located in a cool place, it is recommended to use valuable wood species with high moisture resistance:

  • oak;
  • ash;
  • maple;
  • nut;
  • Cherry
  • Karelian birch;
  • acacia.

The wood of these species is characterized by durability and a beautiful design of products from them, although the cost of such a model will be rather big.

Important! It is not recommended to use coniferous wood with a stable tarry odor.

In practice, for the manufacture of wine cabinets with their own hands, they often use pine or spruce, which are simpler to process than valuable breeds and more affordable.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a wine cabinet

Consider the step-by-step instructions for a wine cabinet without doors with individual cells inside.

Step 1. Prepare a drawing indicating all sizes and layout of the internal shelves. The depth of the cabinet must be at least the height of the bottles.

Step 2 Make a calculation of all the necessary materials.

For manufacturing you will need:

  • solid boards 20 mm thick;
  • wooden beam 30x30 mm;
  • sheets of thick plywood;
  • metal corners;
  • fasteners;
  • varnish.

Important! When buying wood, pay attention to the uniformity of the relief, the absence of knots and layers that reduce strength and shorten the life of the product.

Step 3 Prepare the necessary tools (tape measure, saw, hammer, grinder, jigsaw, electric drill, chisel, level, stapler).

Step 4 Assemble the rear and front frame from the timber, fasten with self-tapping screws, use corners for rigidity in the corners.

Step 5 Sheathe the frame with a pre-prepared board, which must be well dried, sanded and coated with special protective compounds.

Step 6 From the sheets of plywood, cut the required number of partitions. The width of the partitions will be equal to the depth of the cabinet.

Step 7 Make cuts in horizontal partitions at an angle of 90 degrees to the size of the cells and rigidly connect them with vertical ones in a single design. With good rigidity and properly maintained dimensions, it is not necessary to attach the structure to the walls of the cabinet. In the same way, you can make a breakdown into cells with diagonal partitions. In this case, the cuts are made at an angle of 45 degrees.

Partitions can be made of boards, the technology for creating the structure is the same as with plywood. Completely wooden wine cabinet will look impressive in any interior.

Important! The cell size must be such that the bottle enters it freely, but does not roll.

Step 8 Coat the external and internal partitions with matt varnish.

Important! Wine stored in bottles located on its side or neck down for much longer retains its taste.
