Frize carpet material: what is it

When a floor covering is chosen on the floor, in most cases pay attention to: color, pattern or texture and the material from which the product is made.

But the development of modern technologies so quickly brings to light such a number of types of materials with such unusual names that most ordinary people are completely unaware of what such floor coverings are made of. Such, for example, is the situation with Frieze material.

Material Features for Frize Carpet

Frieze - the basis for this material is synthetic fiber polypropylene. Polypropylene itself has a number of qualities, positive and negative.

The positive ones include:

  1. Affordable price category - fiber itself is cheap enough.
  2. It is not subject to the formation of static electricity, which provides such an interesting property as the repulsion of dust from the pile of the carpet. Due to this, the dirt does not "eat" into the surface of the carpet.
  3. It does not have hygroscopicity, that is, it is not wetted by water. This greatly facilitates the maintenance of such a surface, since moist dirt, which is based on water, simply does not absorb.
  4. The paint used to dye the polypropylene yarn forms such a stable joint with the fiber that it is not exposed to fading in the sun. Due to this, a carpet made of such material retains its appearance for a very long time.
  5. Not allergic.
  6. Not subject to insect attacks.
  7. It does not breed fungus and mold.
  8. It is comfortable to clean such a product.

Despite the mass of positive qualities, the frieze carpet still has its drawbacks:

  1. Yet it is a synthetic material.
  2. Despite its similarity to wool, it does not make a good tandem with an eco-style interior.

Due to the specificity of heat treatment and twisting of fibers from several shades, a texture is obtained that resembles wool as much as possible. The fiber is very soft, but at the same time elastic. Differs in some curliness.

Frize Carpet Pile Length

If we talk about the length of the pile, then the polypropylene fiber itself can be both very short: from 2-3 mm, and up to several centimeters long. Speaking specifically about the frieze, due to the fact that it has a fairly good softness and waviness, carpets with high pile are made from it, starting from 2 cm and above. Frieze carpets are well suited to children's rooms, living rooms and bedrooms.
