How to save on electricity consumption of household appliances

Due to the regular increase in the cost of electricity consumed, the problem of its economy is particularly acute today. There are many methods and tricks that can significantly reduce the consumption of electricity. But in most cases, these methods are either illegal or insufficiently effective and difficult to enforce.

Among the well-known household appliances, a number of items stand out that are distinguished by particularly high consumption. They traditionally include:

  • Fridges.
  • Electric stoves of all brands.
  • Washing machines.
  • Heaters of one kind or another.
  • Electric kettles and other units.

The leading positions among the most energy-intensive equipment are traditionally occupied by refrigerators operating around the clock with small interruptions during shutdowns. The average energy consumption of various models of refrigeration units is from 250 to 450 kW per year. Next comes the electric stove, consuming from 4 to 8 kW / h (an amount depending on the intensity of use of the device will run over the year).

Note! For washing machines, the energy consumption is determined in a special way (based on one wash). For most models, it ranges from 1 to 1.2 kW.

Relatively large consumption is characterized by oil or electric radiators (heaters), as well as completely optional electric kettles in the household.

The energy consumption of the refrigerator depends on factors such as ambient temperature and the reliability of the unit’s sealing. This indicator can be reduced if you carefully monitor the rubber gaskets and prevent air overheating within the kitchen space. The electric stove can be turned off about 5 minutes before the dish is completely ready (this will not affect its quality in any way due to the high inertia of the heating element).

When using the washing unit, it is recommended to choose economical modes of processing the laundry (with a not very high water temperature).

Additional Information! In the presence of a multi-tariff energy meter, some housewives prefer to start a nightly wash program.

It is also advisable to include a domestic heater in the cold season for periods of minimum tariff accounting (day or night, for example). It is generally better to refuse an electric kettle by going to boiling water with cheaper gas.

When using the considered methods of energy conservation, the total savings can be expressed by the following averaged indicators:

  • In the case of using in the washing unit more economical modes of processing linen (with a reduced temperature), it is possible to save about 0.5 kW at a time.
  • In the mode of careful energy consumption when using the stove, you can save from 2.5 to 5 kW per month (based on cooking on one burner once a day).
  • Savings on the heater, included in periods of minimum tariff accounting, depends on the power of the model used and its type. Usually this indicator does not exceed 5-10 percent.

In conclusion, we note that a multi-tariff meter with electronic control installed in the apartment can provide significant energy savings. Due to the competent distribution of the switching time of various household appliances, the total indicator of profitability in this case reaches 14 percent.
